In 2008 I made the choice to get an iPhone 3G unfortunately this came with baggage. The baggage was that you could only have it in the UK on O2. Up to that point I’d been with Orange since 1995 with little or not issues.
So I started a new contract with O2, keeping my old Orange one just in-case. The 3G was excellent, I have to say. Far better than the Windows CE “smart phones” I had been using in the past. The 3G was eventually replaced by a 3GS, mostly due to a long drop onto a solid concrete floor!
Towards the end of 2010 the O2 network, at least in the South of England, seemed to be having some issues. Signal strength dropped though the floor, calls constantly being dropped when moving between cell towers. I’ve since moved onto an HTC Desire HD which was running Android v2.2 initially but has since updated itself to v2.3
Three different phones and the same outcome – O2 has some serious issues. Possibly due to over subscription or perhaps due to the “all-you-can-eat” data plans they gave away with the iPhones. I’ve since been trying my old Orange SIM and number with near perfect reception at all times.
